Responsible for the day to day operations of the journals, the members of the team are involved in sourcing reviewers and providing editorial input on the papers allocated to them. While the Editor in Chief is responsible for all the editorial decisions of the journal, each paper receives the input of at least one associate editor and one assistant editor in addition to at least two blinded reviews. The team is also responsible for the implementation of the strategic plan and running the author and reviewer workshops conducted from time to time.
THE EDITORIAL TEAM
Dr. Kigera is a consultant orthopedic surgeon and a lecturer in the University of Nairobi’s School of Medicine. He has a passion for teaching and for research in basic sciences, medical education and orthopedics.
Dr Bahaty Riogi is a Breast Oncoplastic Fellow with NHS Partnership Trust and a general surgeon at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. Her interests are in General & Breast Surgery and clinical research.
Dr Aruyaru is a general surgeon at St Theresa Mission Hospital, Meru, Kenya. He has published in a wide range of international and regional journals, and his current research interests are in global surgery and improving access to surgical care, while his clinical practice interests are in digestive hepatobiliary, colorectal and trauma surgery. He is a member of the Surgical Society of Kenya, Kenya Hernia Society and the Cochrane Breast Cancer Working Group.
Dr. Okello is a Plastic Surgeon at the Plastic Surgery & Burns unit of the Kenyatta National Hospital. His interests include Reconstructive Microsurgery, Aesthetic and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery and Clinical Research.
Dr. Michael Mwachiro is a surgical endoscopist at Tenwek Hospital, Bomet. He has active research interests in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and oncology particularly esophageal cancer focusing on epidemiology, early detection and palliation.
DR. MUMBA CHALWE
Dr Mumba Chalwe is a Urologist at The Ndola Teaching Hospital with special interest in reconstructive Urology and Cancer Research. She is passionate about writing and is an avid advocate for the advancement of modern surgical practice on the African continent.
Dr. Philip Mwachaka is a Lecturer at the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Nairobi, Kenya. He is a certified neurosurgeon and an anatomist (Msc.Anatomy) interested in neuroscience research.
Dr. Benjamin Njihia is a General Surgeon based at St. Francis Community Hospital, Kasarani. His research interests are Surgical Oncology in the African Context as well as Trauma. In his spare time he enjoys playing guitar and swimming.
DR DIEU MERCI KABULO
Dr. Dieu Merci Kabulo is a neurosurgeon at Jason Sendwe General provincial Hospital in Lubumbashi, DRC and member of Education committee of young CAANS (young Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Societies. he is passionate in teaching and Research. His interests include: pediatric neurosurgery, skull base, neuro-oncology and spine.
DR. ERNEST KIMANI
Dr. Ernest Kimani is an epidemiologist, pursuing Master of Medicine (Urology) at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has studied Master of Science (Medical Epidemiology). He is passionate in reconstructive, endoscopic and laparoscopic urology, data science, artificial intelligence in healthcare, clinical research and peer review.
DR. MORAA MOSE
Dr Moraa Mose is a general surgeon at Malava Sub-County Hospital, with special interest in hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgery. She’s also a member of Surgical Society of Kenya and Kenya Association of Women Surgeons.

Dr. Nathalie Christelle Ghomsi is a Neurosurgery resident at Felix Houphouët Boigny University. She is a founding member of the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN). She values the progress of research in medical sciences and global surgery, particularly Neurosurgery in Africa and Gender Equity in surgery. Her interests include neurooncology, neurovascular surgery, and skull base surgery.
Dr. NOUROU DINE ADENIRAN BANKOLE
Dr. Nourou is the Neurosurgery Chief Resident at WFNS Reference Training Center of African Young neurosurgeons in Rabat-Morocco. His interests include Neuroanatomy, Bibliometry search, collaborative research work, Skull base surgery, Neuro-oncology, awake surgery of Low grade glioma, Hybrid management in Neurovascular disease such as Neurosurgery care and neuro-interventional therapeutic, radiosurgery Gammaknife and Neurosciences. He is a member of the Asia Pacific Headache Society and the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons.
