Surgical Camps

Free Cleft Surgery Camp

Access to safe, timely surgical care remains a cornerstone of global surgery. Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), in collaboration with Operation Smile Kenya, will be conducting a free cleft surgery camp at the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital from 16th–20th February 2026, with screening scheduled for 14th–15th February 2026.

Beyond surgical repair, the camp offers comprehensive cleft care including nutrition assessment, speech therapy, dental services, and psychosocial support  for optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes.

Call for Abstracts- KOA

The Kenya Orthopedics Association, KOA invites abstracts for oral and poster presentations at its 2026 Annual Conference, themed Orthopedics as a Frontier for Change. The conference will take place from 15–19 June 2026 at Pride Inn, Shanzu, Mombasa, and will highlight research, innovation, and initiatives driving change in orthopedic care. Abstracts should be submitted via email to abstracts2026@koa.or.ke by 26 February 2026.

Upcoming Courses and Workshops

Spine Cadaveric Workshop

The Spine Surgeons of Kenya Association is pleased to announce an upcoming Spine Cadaveric Workshop scheduled for Saturday, 11th April 2026, to be held at the Nairobi Surgical Skill Centre, Nairobi.

This hands-on workshop is designed to enhance practical skills and deepen anatomical understanding in spine surgery through guided cadaveric training. Participants are encouraged to register early, as spaces are limited.

ATLS Kenya Provider Courses

Oxford Global Surgery Short Course 2026

The 2026 Oxford Global Surgery Short Course is a 5-day intensive program scheduled from Monday, 21 September to Friday, 25 September 2026, hosted by the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Oxford.

It focuses on universal access to safe, affordable surgical, anaesthesia, and obstetric care, featuring expert-led sessions on research, policy, and technology. 

Key Course Information:

  • Target Audience: Health professionals, trainees, and students in surgery, anesthesia, and obstetrics.

  • Focus Areas: The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, digital technology in surgery, workforce strengthening, ethical resource allocation, and research.

International HPB Surgery School

For education enthusiasts:

International HPB Surgery School is a virtual educational platform where basic and advanced courses in HPB Surgery are delivered by experienced surgeons. 
The program includes 100 planned lectures for general surgeons and residents who aimed to increase their knowledge in HPB surgery. The lectures cover all aspects of liver, pancreas, and biliary system surgery. Experienced surgeons deliver the live sessions, sharing their knowledges directly. The lectures began in May 2024 and are scheduled to finish in November 2026. It is designed to provide high-quality HPB education accessible to everyone worldwide.
