THE AFRICAN JOURNAL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (AJPP) ANNUAL REVIEW AND PLANNING MEETING 2018

In attendance of the 2018 annual meeting of The African Journal Partnership Program (AJPP) from the The Annals of African Surgery editorial team was Dr. James Kigera (Editor-in-Chief) and Dr. Aruyaru Stanley Mwenda (Associate Editor). Held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the theme of the meeting was Sustainable Publishing: How Journals Are Adapting to the New Publishing Environment. It was graced with two keynote speeches, one by Dr. Elizabeth Marincola, Senior Advisor, Communications and Advocacy for the African Academy of Sciences, dubbed “Advancing Science Communication in Africa” and another “Working with African Science News Media” by Mr. Ochieng Ogodo, the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Coordinator of SciDev.Net. Among the many successes and challenges highlighted, the succession of the late Prof. Hassan Saidi by Dr. James Kigera as the Editor-in-Chief of The Annals of African Surgery was acknowledged by the AJPP partners. Following the success of the meeting, in which 5 workshops tailored towards the improvement of journal functionality and performance were held, the entire Annals of African Surgery team is grateful to have been represented and look forward to the next AJPP meeting in May 2019.
